How was it
born?
- Sylvain Acher was
hired by the City of Montgomery in 1996 to perform with his Jazz group
at an outdoor summer event in Montgomery.
- Janet Steiner,
contact for the city, took him to the indoor location where the group
would perform in case of rain.
- It was Terwilliger's
Lodge, former residence donated to the city of Montgomery.
- When Sylvain walked
in the main room, he had this immediate feeling that the space would be
great for intimate concerts and would be a great venue for his group,
having trouble to find clubs where to perform , and as this space gave
the sensation of being in a house, why not have some food and decorate
the place, like in a home .
- As Sylvain was
already a collector of guitars, ukeleles, radios and more at that time
and knew his French counterparts in the restaurant business, he thought
he was onto something...........an idea was born.
- He then shared the
idea with Janet Steiner who loved the idea and together presented it to
the city of Montgomery who gave the green light to make this new idea
happen.
