Barrier lotion keeps dirt under control
You can usually tell gardeners by the dirt under their nails. Not anymore, though. YardGlove Products of Cincinnati has developed a lotion designed to keep gardeners' hands cleaner. The product, YardGlove Barrier Lotion, is applied to hands and arms before gardening to keep dirt from penetrating the skin and to make washing up easier. Its ingredients include (oat flakes) and beeswax, so it protects and moisturizes skin without feeling greasy or sticky.

The protection lasts several hours, or until the lotion is washed off with soap and water. Water alone won't remove it under normal conditions, so you can water your plants or work in wet soil without losing the lotion's protection.

Keeping hands clean, unchapped, with no skin rips is a major chore. Most stiff hand and nail brushes will grind out soil, but they are surely hard on the hands. A new product, YardGlove, is on the market, and I find it very effective. Applying the lotion before you go into the garden puts a protective barrier on the skin to protect against the penetration of fertilizer, soil, mulch and other garden soil and chemicals. Water alone does not remove the protective barrier. But wash with soap and water, and all the garden grime slides off and still leaves your hands moist.
